Turquoise has been part of our family's story since Dakota Sky Stone began in South Dakota in 1971. More than 55 years and four generations later, we still get excited about a beautiful stone, incredible silverwork and finding pieces that feel different from everything else out there.

We work directly with Native American artists and silversmiths, while also designing and creating pieces within our own family. Many of our designs begin with the stone itself. We love laying out natural turquoise, finding the stones that belong together and creating designs around their individual color, shape and matrix before working with our artists to bring those pieces to life.

That connection to the stone, the artist and the finished piece is a big part of Dakota Sky Stone — and always has been.

Genuine Turquoise Rings & Sterling Silver Rings

Our turquoise ring collection has a little bit of everything.

You'll find smaller rings that are easy to wear every day, classic single-stone turquoise rings, cluster rings, multi-stone designs, Zuni inlay and petit point styles, adjustable rings and large statement pieces made to get noticed.

Some are clean and simple.

Some are definitely not.

And we love both.

Our rings can feature turquoise varieties such as Kingman Turquoise, Sleeping Beauty Turquoise, Golden Hills Turquoise, Royston Turquoise, Sonoran Turquoise, Sierra Nevada Turquoise, Number 8 Turquoise, Boulder Turquoise, Pilot Mountain Turquoise and other stones our family has come to know and love over the years.

You'll also find rings featuring White Buffalo, Spiny Oyster, Coral, Black Onyx, Pink Conch, Opal, Malachite and other natural stones.

Because these are natural stones, color, matrix and pattern can vary dramatically from one piece to another. That individuality is exactly what makes this jewelry special.

Native American Handcrafted Rings

The artist behind a piece matters to us.

For generations, Dakota Sky Stone has built relationships with Native American artists and silversmiths whose craftsmanship is at the heart of the jewelry we carry.

Many of our pieces are handcrafted by Navajo, Zuni and Hopi artists using techniques and design traditions that have been carried forward through generations.

Some rings feature substantial sterling silver work built around one incredible turquoise stone. Others use clusters of individually selected stones, detailed stamp work, needlepoint, petit point or intricate inlay.

Every artist has their own style, and we think that is part of what makes collecting Native American jewelry so much fun.

When artist information is available, we include it with the individual product so you can know more about who created the piece you're wearing.

Statement Turquoise Rings

If there is one category of jewelry where we don't mind going a little bigger, it's rings.

A statement turquoise ring can do all the work.

Throw it on with denim and a white shirt. Pair it with your favorite Navajo Pearls. Wear it with other turquoise or let that one incredible ring stand completely on its own.

Some of our favorite pieces feature oversized stones, turquoise clusters or wide sterling silver settings that become the focal point of an entire look.

And we don't believe those pieces need to be saved for special occasions.

Everyday Turquoise Rings

Not every turquoise ring needs to make a huge statement.

Some of the pieces you end up loving the most are the ones you put on without even thinking about it.

A smaller Sleeping Beauty Turquoise ring, simple sterling silver band or single-stone turquoise ring can become part of your everyday jewelry and still add that little bit of turquoise that makes everything better.

How to Stack Turquoise Rings

There really aren't a lot of rules when it comes to stacking turquoise rings.

We actually prefer when everything doesn't match perfectly.

Mix a simple sterling silver band with a turquoise ring. Wear a small Sleeping Beauty stone next to something with heavy matrix. Combine polished silver with oxidized silver or put an old favorite beside something brand new.

You can also mix different turquoise mines and colors.

Bright blue, green, webbed, clean, earthy — they don't have to match to belong together.

A great jewelry collection should feel like it was collected over time, because the best ones usually are.

Choosing Your Turquoise

We get asked all the time which turquoise is the best.

Our answer is usually pretty simple: start with the one you love.

Some people immediately gravitate toward the clean, bright blue associated with Sleeping Beauty Turquoise. Others love the range of blues and matrix found in Kingman Turquoise. Golden Hills is known for its beautiful blue coloring and distinctive matrix, while Royston and other Nevada turquoise can bring incredible greens, blues and earthy tones.

Then there are the stones that don't fit neatly into one look at all.

That's part of the fun.

You don't need to know every mine before buying turquoise. Learning the different stones and their characteristics can make collecting even more interesting, but your first reaction still matters.

If you keep going back to the same ring, there is probably a reason.

One-of-a-Kind Turquoise Rings

Many of the turquoise rings at Dakota Sky Stone are truly one of a kind.

Natural turquoise doesn't come out of the ground looking exactly the same from stone to stone. Each piece can have its own color, matrix, webbing, shape and personality.

We actually do many of our own design layouts in-house, choosing natural stones and creating combinations that are then brought to life through sterling silver work.

That means when a one-of-a-kind ring sells, we may never be able to recreate that exact piece again.

We may find another beautiful stone.

We may create another incredible design.

But it won't be that one.

After more than 55 years around turquoise, that's still one of the things we love most about it.

Zuni Rings & Inlay Jewelry

Our ring collection also includes beautiful Zuni-made jewelry featuring traditional and contemporary stonework.

Zuni artists are especially known for incredibly detailed techniques such as inlay, petit point and needlepoint, where smaller stones can be precisely shaped and set into intricate designs.

These pieces can look completely different from a large Navajo-style turquoise statement ring, but that is exactly why we love carrying both.

Different artists, techniques and traditions give you an opportunity to build a jewelry collection with depth — not just a collection where everything looks the same.
